Cloud Couch Dupes: How to Get the Look Without the Designer Price
What makes a cloud-style sectional look the part, what to check before you buy a dupe, and current picks for less.
The cloud couch is the sofa that took over every living-room mood board: deep seats, oversized cushions and a slouchy, sink-in shape. The designer original costs thousands, which is exactly why it's one of the most searched dupes on the internet.
What makes the "cloud" look
- Extra-deep seats. Look for a seat depth of around 38 inches or more. Shallow seats are the fastest giveaway of a cheap copy.
- Overstuffed, rounded cushions. The arms and backs should look pillowy, not boxy.
- Low, hidden legs. The sofa should appear to sit right on the floor.
- Modular pieces. Separate sections let you rearrange the shape, just like the original.
- Soft, light fabric. Off-white performance fabrics, linen blends and bouclé all nail the look.
What to check before you buy a dupe
Cushion fill. Feather-wrapped foam stays plush; all-foam can feel firm; all-down needs regular fluffing. Read reviews for comments about cushions flattening.
Removable, washable covers. A light-colored sofa needs them. Check whether covers zip off and whether they're machine washable.
Delivery and returns. Big furniture is expensive to send back. Confirm return windows and whether you'll pay return shipping.
Measure twice. Deep sofas take up more room than you think. Measure your doorways and stairwells too.
Our take
You don't need the original to get the feeling of the original. Prioritise seat depth and cushion quality over everything else, and a dupe at a fraction of the price will look and feel the part.
